January 2018 School Board Recognition Month The job of a school board member is tough, the hours are long and the thanks are few and far between. It is all too easy to put off saying “thank you” to this group of individuals who work tirelessly on behalf of our children and grandchildren. They spend countless hours preparing to make decisions, participating in meetings and attending school activities and events. The locally elected school board is deeply rooted in U.S. tradition, as is public education. Our state has a proud tradition of support for public education, and in fact in 1966 the people of Kansas amended our state’s constitution to specifically call for local public schools that ar

Candlelight service Thursday evening, Dec. 21 First Saint John Lutheran, Kensington - will have an evening Advent Vespers Candlelight service on Thursday evening of Dec. 21st. Anyone interested in going Christmas Caroling can meet at the church parish hall at 6:00 - to go caroling until 6:30. We will return to the church parish hall for chili dogs and hot chocolate. After warming up we will have the evening Advent devotion at 7:00 p.m. You don’t have to go caroling to come to the service. You can come any time. It will be a candlelight – fading light – service; with relighting a we approach the Christmas story. It should be really fun and good to do. Come and do it with us. Kensin

The Kensington Community Store held an open house to show customer appreciation, inviting everyone for cookies, coffee, hot chocolate and cider. A special treat for the children was an old fashioned wagon ride with Santa and Mrs. Claus. The wagon and horse team are owned and driven by Connie Kahrs of Franklin, Ne. Connie is the daughter of Danny and Sherry Newbrey and her sister, Annette Riley, was helping too. The kids were able to visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, put in their special Christmas gift

Christmas Cheer this Saturday, Dec. 9th Come visit Kensington for the annual Christmas Craft Show taking place at the American Legion on Main Street from 9am to 3pm this Saturday. Lunch will be served and many great gifts for Christmas offered. Bring the kids or grandkids for an Old Fashioned Christmas with Santa from 10:30am to 12:00pm at the Kensington Community Store, just a short walk down from the legion. They will be offering horse drawn wagon rides as well as cookies and hot chocolate or cider. Come see Santa and the horses too!
