Celebrating 157 years of Kansas this week! Students and teachers have enjoyed celebrating our great state of Kansas this week. When we think of Kansas, we normally think of sunflowers, meadowlarks, wheat, buffalo and cottonwood trees. Each year, the children learn about these plus the state insect, the honeybee, the state reptile, which is the Ornate Box Turtle, and our state flag. The state flag of Kansas dates to 1927, although changes have been made to the original design of the flag since that time. The flag contains the state seal of Kansas, the word KANSAS in yellow, a sunflower, and a yellow and blue bar. The flag is full of symbolism. The gold and blue bar symbolizes that Kansas was

When a members name was drawn but he is not present, the pot will roll over to next month. The Friday Night Special, January 19th: Friday night special at the Kensington American Legion will be our Santa Fe Salad, which is shredded lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and a grilled chicken breast sitting on top of a bed of crunchy tortilla chips. KCS Benefit Auction this Saturday Please plan to attend the Benefit Auction for the Kensington Community Store this Saturday, Jan. 13th starting at 9:00am at the American Legion Hall. Profits go towards helping our community grocery store with necessary upgrades and the continuing expenses of maintenance. The store board appreciates all the support shown and community efforts to make this auction a success. There will be a concession stand. January 2018 School Board Recognition Month The job of a school board member is tough, the hours are long and the thanks are few and far between. It is all too easy to put off saying “thank you” to this group of individuals who work tirelessly on behalf of our children and grandchildren. They spend countless hours preparing to make decisions, participating in meetings and attending school activities and events.
