More Help to Flood Victims

Last Tuesday, March the 26th, a semi of hay was delivered to Nebraska flood victims through the Eastern Nebraska Research and Education Disaster Relief. The load was taken to the Nebraska University Research Station which is the collection point for that area. It is 30 miles north of Lincoln. Jean Ann Wagner of Farmers' National Bank contacted Greg Billings to organize the donation. The Farmers' National Bank purchased a semi load of round alfalfa hay bales from Bill Molzahn, who helped load it. Manager Sam Schofield agreed that Trinity Ag would donate the fuel for the trip, and Greg Billings donated his time and the trucking.

Once hay is delivered to the station, farmers can come and load hay to take to farms in need. The National Guard is assisting that station each day by dropping hay from helicopters to locations where trucks can't get. All State Basketball selections

Layne Pettijohn was selected for Class 1A girls Second Team. Honorable mentions were Libby Hardacre and Brennan Kirchhoff.

Also, in a separate article out of 117 1A teams, Layne Pettijohn was selected as one of the 9 finalists for 1A player of the year. Emily Ryan from Central Plains was selected the winner.

More honors: Layne selected 1st team for Sports in Kansas Class 1A All-State; Brennan Kirchhoff and Libby Hardacre were honorable mentions.

Mark Your Calendars!

A few different meal opportunities to keep in mind will be provided for you at the American Legion Post 166 in Kensington. This Sunday, March 24, from 11:00am-1:00pm, join us for the ALR Spaghetti Dinner. On Friday 29, serving the usual Friday Nite Special, hamburgers, soup and other regular menu items, from 6:00-8:30pm. Sunday, March 31 is the Fireman’s Soup Dinner from 11:00am-1:00pm. Please support our local firefighters who are community volunteers.    

Also, on April 7 from 11:00am-1:00pm the Agra Methodist Church will be serving their Chicken Pot Pies.

Lady Longhorns named 3rd in the State!

The 2019 Girls Class 1A State Basketball Tournament took place last week in Dodge City, Kansas. The Lady Longhorns worked and fought hard, earning their way up the bracket into state semifinals with a 56-45 win over South Central Wednesday night, March 6. This led them to face the undefeated Central Plains Friday night, March 8. A tough loss to the Central Plains team placed the Lady Longhorns into play for 3rd/4th on Saturday, March 9. This was consecutive win number 111 for a very talented Central Plains team, so the Lady Longhorns had nothing to feel bad about. It was a 3rd place finish for the ladies as they beat Waverly 54-44 on Saturday.  Congrats to the Lady Longhorns on your 3rd in the state title. Your families, your school, and your communities are very proud of you!

Sub-State Champs!  

Congratulations to the Lady Longhorns on another Sub-State Championship. The Class 1A Sub-State Tournament was played at Wakeeney-Trego Community High School. This past Thursday night, February 28, they earned a 49-40 win over Otis-Bison which lead them to play again Saturday, March 2. The ladies faced the undefeated team from Golden Plains and games were moved up due to weather concerns.  Victory was claimed 47-33 over Golden Plains, so the ladies will now travel to Dodge City for the state tournament. They are scheduled to play Wednesday night, March 6, at 8:15pm versus Coldwater South Central.

Congrats to the ladies and their coaches on your regional championship, sub-state championship and wishing you all Best of Luck at State!!

Regional Champs!  

The Lady Longhorns will move on to Sub-State play after a decisive 57-23 win over Osborne in the championship game at regionals played in Hill City on Sunday, February 24. The Class 1A Sub-State Tournament will be played at Wakeeney-Trego Community High School. The girls are scheduled to play this Thursday, February 28, versus Otis Bison at 6:00pm. Congrats to the ladies and their coaches on your regional Championship and Good Luck at Sub-State!

Grauerholz’ Attends Lions Rally

Darold and Joyce Grauerholz attended the Kansas Lions Mid-Winter Rally in Manhattan, KS on January 25-27. Pictured are Denny and Fran Smith, Ulysses; Darold and Joyce Grauerholz, Kensington; Gretchen and “Nick” Xinopoulos, Brownsburg, Indiana. Mr. Xinopoulos came from humble beginnings, growing up in a one room home in rural Greece. He has received numerous awards with Lions and various other associations. He now serves as International Director of Lions Club International. Lions currently have a worldwide membership of 1.5 million.

TR School News

Thunder Ridge high school students, along with other students from Northern Plains League, participated in the NPL band clinic at Rock Hills in Mankato, Ks on Monday, February 4.  Approximately 170 band students rehearsed all day and performed a concert in the evening.

TRMS Teams Named PTL Tournament Champs!

Congratulations to both the girls and boys teams and their coaches for an awesome season and being named PTL Tournament Champions this past weekend in Osborne. The tournament standing came down to both Thunder Ridge boys and girls facing the Osborne boys and girls teams for the championship. The games were close and very competitive, but the Longhorns came out on top.  The TR boys held an undefeated season record while the girls went 12 wins and 3 loses.

TRHS Hosts Mini-Cheerleader Camp

Twenty-seven energetic, future cheerleaders attended the Thunder Ridge High School Mini-Cheer Camp the morning of Saturday, January 26. The gym was full of smiles, giggles and spirit as girls aged preschool through 5th grade learned cheers, played games, crafted, and practiced kicks and jumps.
