St. John Lutheran Sunday school kids used Thrivent Action Money to help their church pack school boxes for Samaritan's Purse. Operation Christmas Child is a project that St. John's Sunday school kids have participated in for many years. This year, Robin Billings applied to Thrivent and received $250 to purchase items for shoe boxes. With that money the kids packed 23 shoe boxes and, together with the church, sent off 42 shoe boxes to Operation Christmas Child.

Every Thrivent member can apply for $250 twice a year to fund any project of their choice. The money is to be seed money, which means it is to be used to start a project. Then others get involved and help the project grow by donating time or other things to complete the project. The money cannot be directly donated to someone or something; it is intended to spark a bigger project and turn someone's idea into "action". The application process is simple and can be done online at thrivent.com. Just click on “MY THRIVENT” and then “Apply for a Thrivent Action Team”.

Kensington Library News

November was Kansas Reads to Preschoolers Month, promoted by the State Library of Kansas and recognized by libraries all over the state. This year, the State Library donated copies of the popular Audrey Woods title “The Napping House” to Kansas libraries and encouraged them to provide a special program for preschoolers focused around this book. And so, Mrs. Barnes went to visit the children and Ms. Stacy at the First St. John’s Preschool in Kensington to read them this cute story. The preschoolers also learned a neat little song called “The Granny in the Bed” sang to the tune of “The Farmer in the Dell.” Many different “Napping House” storytime activities were provided by Anne Harris of the State Library.

Weekly Inspiration

Overthinking is the biggest cause of our unhappiness. Keep yourself occupied. Keep your mind off things that don't help you. Think positive.

One lie is all it takes for someone to lose their faith in you. The best you can do is always be upfront, always be real and always tell the truth.

You can't change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret to positive change is found in your daily routine.
