St. John Lutheran Church

Each spring St. John Lutheran Church chooses an organization to partner with and commits to making it their year long mission project, doing fundraising events throughout the year. This past Sunday, April 29, the church finished their year and presented a $12,000 check to Dalton Carter who is the assistant program manager at Crossroads Center Rescue Mission. This organization is in Kearney and Hastings, Nebraska and provides shelter, vocational rehabilitation, and meals for the homeless.

Dalton attended church this Sunday and accepted the church's donation. A reception followed the church service where members could visit with Dalton more about the progress of the organization.

Sunday, April 8, 2018 was the date for St. John’s Lutheran Church Spring Tea. St. John’s Lutheran Church of Kensington was also the host church for the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Convention, all held in the parish hall. The hall was decorated in an Easter fashion with spring floral touches and hints of Pantone’s color of the year.

Linda McDowell, WELCA President at St. John’s gave the “Welcome” to 31 guests. The program was presented by Amy Terrill’s FCCLA girls, Sharon Topel and Adalynne Haresnape of Smith Center. Their presentations were on crocheting mats for the homeless out of plastic shopping sacks and suicide prevention. Sharon Meyer shared her talent by playing the accordion for the special music portion of the program. She was accompanied by Dawn Meyer on piano. Pastor Lorna Paulus shared Abigail’s story for the Bible Study portion of the program. Mary Struckhoff told of the history of planning the Spring Tea leading to the Color of the Year presentation.

The business meeting was held. Greetings were given by Kara Jecha, Central State Synod Representative, of Timken, KS,. Door prizes of fresh blooming plants were won by Dawn Meyer, Maycee Westbrook, Wanda Rahjes, Karen Freiling, Pastor Lorna Paulus, and Casandra Gibson. Refreshments of angel food cake and fresh fruit was served and enjoyed by all who attended.

A big “Thank You” to everyone who came together and worked so hard to make the Spring Tea and Convention so special and enjoyable.
