Veterans Day Celebration in Kensington

Make plans to attend the annual Veterans Day Celebration in Kensington on Saturday, November 11th. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the WWI armistice, or truce agreement to cease fighting. There will be anniversary pens for sale.

Starting at 9:00am, visit the Pie Stand at the Vo-Ag building hosted by the ladies of the American Legion Auxiliary. The ladies will also have poppies and raffle tickets for sale. Visit the Kensington Library for the Scholastic Book Fair from 9:00am to 2:00pm and get great books for the kids. At 11:00am, this years’ guest speaker Major Jamie Schwandt will address the community, followed by the parade at 11:15am. Bring your own containers/dishes and tableware for the FREE BBQ serving beans and sandwiches at 12:00 noon. Be sure to stay and view the flag retirement ceremony at 1:30pm.

Raffle tickets are available to purchase from any Legion member or Legion Rider. Guns and prizes to be given away Saturday starting at 9:00pm at the American Legion hall. No dance but the bar will be open for fellowship. Stick around, Sunday morning the Lions Club will host their annual Pancake Feed.

Ringing Bells of Peace

“At the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, the Great War ends.” In remembrance, we are asking everyone who has a bell, to ring it 21 times on November 11 at 11:00am. The church bells will be ringing and bells will be ringing across the nation.

This week at the American Legion we will be serving Shepherd's pie, broccoli salad, and mixed fruit cup. Our soup special is chicken noodle with turkey cheddar & ranch pinwheels (wrap). Miracle Mat Makers Will Meet

Mark Saturday, December 1, on your calendar. We will have our first meeting at St. John Lutheran Church, Kensington, to learn how to cut bags, tie strips together, and crochet plarn (plastic yarn) into plastic mats for the homeless. My goal for this first meeting is to plant a seed in the hearts of those who come. I pray they are inspired to take this project to their home church, living room, back to our church.....where ever...and make mats for the homeless.

I look at this simple project to be a catalyst for coming together in our community, in our parishes, and friends in surrounding areas and start a fire of service that can't be extinguished! Making these mats could continue to be done as a group at our church, at other churches, or in your own homes. It's that simple!! If in a few years, only two or three people are still working on this awesome project, my heart will be happy! But I'm hoping for so much more! Homeless and needy people will always exist and so will our ability to help! Please consider joining our efforts. Spread the word to all your friends!

We need bags, people with an ability to cut bags, tie strips together, and to crochet....to do one, two, or all the above things! Supplies will be purchased with Thrivent dollars so scissors and size Q crocheting needles will be provided and given to volunteers.

Claudell Reunion

Please join us for the Annual Gathering of the St. Francis Church in Claudell. It will be Sunday, November 4 with a 4:00pm Mass at the church followed by a potluck meal at the Gaylord Community Center. Plan to attend and tell your friends and families.

Kensington Library News

The Scholastic Book Fair is here! Preview and browse the book fair on Saturday November 3rd. We will open for sales starting Monday November 5th - Saturday 10th.

Open: Daily from 8am-4pm; Open LATE: Monday until 8:00pm, Wednesday & Thursday until 5:00pm; Special Family Event on Saturday 10th from 9am-2pm during the Veterans Day Celebration. This is a great opportunity to purchase gifts for your children, grandchildren, and teachers for their classrooms.

Benjamin Grauerholz, grandson of Darold and Joyce Grauerholz of Kensington, is a history buff who enjoys learning about the different battles and wars fought. Ben has his very own life-like replica of war trenches that he plays with regularly. The Grauerholz family wanted to share this unique trench replica with us for children of the community to play with and enjoy as well. So please stop by the library anytime through November 10th to see this amazing trench and remember the war that was fought for us.
