Kensington Community Owned Grocery Store
Reminder that the Kensington Community Store will no longer be open Sundays. We are sorry to say it just doesn’t work. Even with donations and fundraising efforts, we do not generate enough daily income to warrant being open on Sunday. Unfortunately, we need to start cutting costs somewhere and we are contemplating closing on Mondays as well, as it has consistently been a day for extremely low profits.
In case you didn’t know: we do offer Tweedy’s Locker meats in our freezer section. We offer steaks, burgers and bacon for your summer grilling needs, plus PRUTTLES and roasts for a Sunday crockpot dinner.
Some patrons complain about the lack of choices and holes on the shelves. There are various reasons for this. Since we are not affiliated with a big corporation or owned by a chain, our options are drastically different and very limited. Also, orders do get placed but due to circumstances beyond our control, certain items get marked out or do not come in on the truck. Another reason is that our weekly income determines the dollar amount of product we can purchase to replenish. IF we have a terribly low week, we cannot order everything we truly need. It comes down to: when our daily sales are down, we simply cannot cover payroll, bills, maintenance expenses plus the weekly truck deliveries. The harsh reality is, we are struggling and our hands are tied. KCS is at the mercy of our customers and our town choosing to shop here first. We understand shopping elsewhere for the unique or specific items that we cannot keep in stock. But if you do not at least attempt to shop here first, we are facing serious trouble with painful consequences.
