A Town Owned Grocery Store
The Kensington Community Store board wishes to again extend our appreciation to all who attended our BBQ fundraiser meal in June, and for the gracious donations given during and afterward. We wouldn’t be here without you! Still, fundraisers and generous donations alone will not keep this store afloat.
We do regret to inform that beginning in July, the store will no longer be open Sundays. Even with donations and fundraising efforts, we do not generate enough daily income to warrant being open on Sunday. To be honest, we are contemplating closing on Mondays as well, as it has consistently been a day for extremely low profits.
Some patrons complain about the lack of choices and holes on the shelves. There are various reasons for this. Since we are not affiliated with big corporation or owned by a chain, our options are drastically different and very limited. Also, orders do get placed but due to circumstances beyond our control, certain items get marked out or do not come in on the truck. Another reason is that our weekly income determines the dollar amount of product we can purchase to replenish. IF we have a terribly low week, we cannot order everything we truly need. It comes down to: when our daily sales are down, we simply cannot cover payroll, bills, maintenance expenses plus the weekly truck deliveries. The harsh reality is, we are struggling and our hands are tied. KCS is at the mercy of our customers and our town choosing to shop here first. We understand shopping elsewhere for the unique or specific items that we cannot keep in stock. But if you do not at least attempt to shop here first, we are facing serious trouble with painful consequences.
Celebrating 250th BIRTHDAY of Our Nation!
Come join us for hamburgers and hotdogs provided by the Kensington American Legion. Begins at 6:30 PM on Saturday, July 4th. Everyone attending is encouraged to
bring your favorite side! We will finish with an amazing FIREWORKS DISPLAY! If you plan to attend the fireworks display, it will be held at the baseball field and the public is asked to sit on the west side of the football field. Everyone must stay there for your safety…either use the stadium or bring lawn chairs. Thank you!
Sponsored by the James & Billings families along with POST 166.
