North Church News

Fifty-five people were in attendance March 24, 2019 at the St. John Lutheran Church parish hall in Kensington for the Parent Appreciation potluck; formerly called Spring Tea or Mother-Daughter Tea. After the doxology was sung, people filed by three tables filled with cooks delight. Once everyone was seated, all were welcomed by Mary Struckhoff, WELCA Justice officer.

The WELCA Anniversary dinner on February 24, was cancelled due to inclement weather so time was given to acknowledge 11 couples celebrating special anniversaries. A reading paying homage to each of the couples respective years married was read.

A poem by Ron Tranmer, “The Greatest Parents On Earth,” was shared. A brief history explaining that the U.S. Congress recognizes the 4th Sunday in July as Parents Appreciation Day was presented.

It was a beautiful, sunny day outside. Inside, the tables were adorned with handmade fabric runners colored in gray, teal, and pink with small silver buckets holding tiny tulips helped set the spring-time theme. It was a short but nice time, so everyone could go on to their next activity. Thank you to all the kids and everyone who helped that day. Those couples recognized with special wedding anniversaries are as follows:

60 years Gib and Sharon Meyer, August 30, 1959; 45 years Garen and Cathy Diercks, June 9, 1974; 45 years Ron and Cindy Rahjes, November 2, 1974; 40 years Joel and Connie Bienhoff, June 16, 1979; 40 years Doug and Wanda Rahjes, September 29, 1979; 25 years Bruce and Amber Hardacre, July 22, 1994; 25 years Greg and Robin Billings, November 16, 1994; 20 years Leland and Linda Rahjes, October 16, 1999; Newlyweds Justin and Amy Abbott, June 2, 2019; Newlyweds Kenny and Doris Molzahn, July 21, 2019; Newlyweds Cory and Audrey Rahjes, September 22, 2019.
