News for 12/20/2023 - Wreaths Across America

National Wreaths Across America Day

On December 16, 2023, 711 wreaths were placed at 7 cemeteries in the Smith County Ks area. Many volunteers make this possible. Tom James, Joe McClure, Larry Kempt, Steve and JoAnn Rice, Korenna Jones, Wes and Laurie Alsdurf, Patricia McCartney to name a few. The Boy Scout Troop 133 from Hays, Ks also came to help for the 3rd year in a row.

This endeavor is a labor of love for Kim Terrell and Regie Henry. These ladies put on many fundraisers and put in numerous hours of hard work behind the scenes to make this happen.

K-Town Kates Met

The K-Town Kates held their annual Christmas Party on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at the Kensington Community Center.  The evening started with Social Hour at 6:00 p.m. with punch and appetizers provided by the members followed by a catered meal for the 15 members and their 9 guests. After the delicious meal, Becky Sadler and family members entertained everyone with beautiful vocal and instrumental Christmas music.  A grab bag gift exchange concluded the evening.  The decorations included JoLinn’s collection of Santa figurines from around the world and a keepsake ornament for everyone which has been a tradition the club has had for many years.  What a wonderful party to start the holiday season!

The January meeting will be held on Monday, January 15, 2024 at 7:00pm. (changed from January 8).  Ryan and Astine Bose will relate their experiences of living in Tanzania for the program.

The additional workers for the January 20, 2024 food pantry will be Deb B. and Donna J.

Legion Friday Night

This week at the Kensington American Legion we have our hot beef as our feature and we will have potato soup, also. Our kitchen is open from 6-8 and you can call 785-476-3204 to have your order ready for pick up.  Hope to see you Friday night.   We want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas!

Kensington Library

We were happy to participate in the Christmas Guessing Game provided by the Kensington Commercial/Community Club. Since our winner was a youth, we put together a special gift bundle with age appropriate books, a $10 gift card to Barnes & Noble, and some candies wrapped up in a Santa hat! Merry Christmas to Mack Foreman, who had the closest guess on the jar of jungle bells.

“A Charlie Brown Christmas” storywalk can be found on display down Main Street beginning at the American Legion. This storywalk is made possible by the Central Kansas Library System and Kensington Community/School Library.

Our January board meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at 6:30p.m. (changed from January 1).

Weekly Inspiration

There is a place within you that can guide your life. Not your mind. Not your ego. It's a whisper. It's your intuition. It's the greatest guide you have. It's connected to everything. Do you trust it? I used to silence it, until it pulled me out of the darkest moment of my life. -Power of Positivity
