Shop Local!
KCS is now offering a hot meal, lunch ready to go, every Monday and Thursday. Any meals remaining after 1pm will be boxed to be available cold in the deli to purchase and heat at home for supper. Please shop local for the items you can before leaving town. We need your support to keep the doors open.
Busy Bees
The Busy Bee’s 4-H Club met on February 22 at Saint John Lutheran Church with 12 members attending. The club decided to continue hosting the concession stand during the summer ball season. Smith County 4-H Club Days will be held at the Smith Center High School on March 2nd; at least 6 Busy Bee members plan to participate. The Synoground’s hosted the meeting providing Valentine themed snacks, Ada Synoground performed a reading and flute solo, Gideon Nelson shared a joke, and Hezekiah Nelson hosted a game. The next meeting is scheduled for March 29th at Saint John Lutheran Church. We are always welcoming prospective members!
HOME Grants Report
Due to the generous support of the community the Kensington Home Foundation board of directors was able to award $22,00 of grants in 2025! Since we began dispersing grants in 2015, we have been able to contribute $77,392 to our community. With the completion of our capital campaign and having 6 Legacy grants we will be able to give at least $20,000 annually in the future. We truly are doing GREAT things in Kensington!
2025 projects funded: Thunder Ridge High School for STEM supplies, chess club, and KAY pool equipment, KHS/Thunder Ridge Alumni association for postage, Legion Auxiliary for uniform updates and kitchen equipment, Spirit Task Force for Memory Garden equipment, Kensington Community Store for freezer update, Kensington Housing Authority for apartment enhancements, SAL for new lights and tables, United Church for PC replacement and Christmas package postage, St. John Lutheran church for AC replacement, City of Kensington for new Main Street flags, and the American Legion for partial funding of a mural.
The 4th annual Arnold & Evelyn Levin Legacy grant was awarded to the Kensington Community store for new security cameras.
The 3rd annual Pauline Seemann Gardner Legacy Grants were awarded to the Kensington Commercial Club for their Christmas Kickoff event and additional Christmas lights.
The 3rd annual Fraser Legacy Grant was awarded to Kensington Senior Center for water heater replacement.
The 3rd annual JS & Betty Wagner Legacy grant was awarded to the Kensington Recreation Commission for football field maintenance.
The 2nd annual Ross & Frances Ferguson Legacy Grant was awarded to the City of Kensington for a pool maintenance project.
We are pleased to announce the 1st annual Linda Ferguson Legacy Grant awarded to the Kensington Community/School Library for an online media subscription. We are doing GREAT things in Kensington!

American Legion in Kensington
THIS Saturday night, Feb. 28, serving a Chicken Fried Steak meal from 6-8pm. Menu items will not be available. Only offering the chicken fry meal and a kids meal of chicken strip with mashed potatoes and gravy.
Open Friday nights, serving from 6-8pm. Orders can be called in at 785-476-3204.
VA Town Hall & Health Fair on Saturday, March 28, 2026.
WHEN: March 28; Breakfast from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM (free will donation); Informational Meeting 10 AM to 1:00 PM (stay for updates or come and go for benefits counseling and community resources). This public event is hosted by Smith County Memorial Hospital & Smith County Family Practice.
