Flag Day Retirement Ceremony
Sunday June 14 was Flag Day. Post #166 honored this day with a Flag Retirement Ceremony. Old, tattered and damaged flags are presented for inspection and considered for disposal, then folded into the traditional, customary triangle. All attendees are called to attention and salute.
Tribute is given by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and reading a script dedicated to the flag. The color guard or leaders place the folded flags into the fire. All attendees stand at attention and salute. A moment of silence is observed for reflection while the flags burn. The American flag is more than just a symbol, it represents our freedom, our history, and the brave souls who have defended it. HONOR IT. RESPECT IT. PROUDLY FLY IT. And when it is time, retire it with dignity and integrity.
