OFSN Events

Events for Saturday, August 20, will kick off with a 5K Fun Run at 7:00am hosted by the Sapphire Dance Team. Then at 9:00am, a Make & Take Barn Quilt Craft Class hosted by the Smith County Historical Society will be held at the Kensington American Legion. (Pre-registration was required for this make & take.)

Pasture Golf is also offered at 9:00am for $20 per 2-person team. Contact Jeff Nech at 785-476-5185 to register.

Yard Olympics games will be held at 1:00pm. It’s $20 per 2-person team to play cornhole, ladder golf, and polish horseshoes. Register via Facebook or contact Jordan Dettmer.

Teens can play 9 Square and Disc Golf from 1-3:00pm. Kids can swim at the pool from 3-4:30pm.

The Car/Truck/Bike Show is from 4-8:00pm. Pre-registration is on site starting at 3:30pm.

The Kiddie Parade with the theme of “Down on the Farm” starts at 6:00pm with entertainment to follow. Come see the little girls’ dance camp performance provided by the TR Sapphire Dancers.

GFC inflatables will be here for the kids from 5-9:00pm and a Beer Garden available for the adults. Lots of food booths and fun to be had!

Be on the lookout for the full schedule posted around town and on Facebook. Make plans to be in Kensington for some ‘Old Fashioned Fun’ on August 20th!


K-TOWN KATES

The Ktown Kates met at the Kensington Community Center on Monday, August 8, 2022 at 7:00p.m. Vice President Doris Wiens opened the meeting. The Minutes were read and the Treasurer’s report was given. Roll Call was answered later in the meeting by 11 members with their pet peeve or most interesting scam call.

Plans were finalized for the pie stand on Old Fashioned Saturday night, August 20. All members are asked to bring a pie and cut it into 6 pieces or to make a donation. Tables will be set up for people to deliver their pies from 5:00 to 5:30. The charge will be $2.00 for a piece of pie or $12.00 for a whole pie.

Georgetta gave the Food Pantry report. Discussion followed. The additional workers for the August 20 Food Pantry will be Donna J and Loretta; September 17 will be Carmen and Joyce.

The September 12th meeting will be a wine and cheese party. Each member is asked to bring their favorite wine or beverage. The hostesses Barb and Deb B. will furnish the cheese and crackers and provide games.

Meeting adjourned. JoAnn served a tasty dessert.


Legion Friday Night

This week at the Kensington American Legion we will be having a Taco Special which will be 2 tacos, soft or hard shell, with Mexican Rice, chips and queso. We will also have a cucumber salad and cantaloupe. The regular menu items will be available. Our hours are 6-8pm and you can reach us at 785-476-3204 for your to-go orders. We hope you plan to attend our Old Fashioned Saturday Night this Saturday, August 20!


Kensington Library News

*Please note: correction of library hours. With Thunder Ridge schools back in session this week, we will return to school hours of operation on Thursday, August 20. We will be open Mondays from 9am to 7pm, Tuesday through Friday from 9am to 4pm, and Saturday from 9am to 2pm. The courier service makes deliveries on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. We can order any materials from other libraries when we don’t have what you’re looking for.

The book club selection for this cycle includes: The Seat Beside Me by Nancy Moser; The Wedding Dress Sewing Circle by Jennifer Ryn; A Fire Sparkling by Julianne MacLean; Run, Rose Run by Dolly Parton & James Patterson; The Book Woman’s Daughter by Michele Richardson; The Ship of Brides by Jojo Moyes; The Reunion by Dan Walsh. The Ecumencial Book Club will next meet on Saturday, October 8, 2022.
