Kansas educators attend third annual Kansas Delta Conference
BELOIT, Kan.- Twenty educators from across Kansas attended the Kansas Delta Conference, held June 12th-16th in Beloit, Kansas at the North Central Kansas Technical College. The Delta Conference is a five-day experience designed around increasing student engagement through lesson design and facilitation in order to ensure that learning and growth happen for every student, every day.
Training was conducted in multiple intelligences, modalities, language, and e-moments. Participants integrated this information into lesson plans and taught to their peers. Participants were coached in the moment and provided feed-back in “real-time.” The intensive training included a focus on teaching methodology and engagement, teacher leadership and personal development, and how to build connections and influence in their school, community and state.
The Kansas Delta Conference was open to secondary educators in Kansas, and was sponsored by the Smoky Hill Education Service Center and the Kansas State Department of Education.
Locally, Beth Sukraw and Sarah Molzahn attended the conference with nineteen other Kansas educators. Three Master Teachers served as mentors to the participants, providing coaching and support throughout the conference. Beth Sukraw mentored at the conference as a Delta One and Sarah Molzahn mentored as a Delta Two, her leadership was invaluable.
“The Delta Conference is different from any other teacher professional development conference out there. The five days are focused on the teacher, so the teacher can focus on students when school starts”, according to Kurt Dillon, Education Program Consultant at KSDE. “Teachers learn as much about themselves and their own roadblocks to excellence as they do about designing and facilitating lessons. The conference provides follow-up work and a learning community for all involved”.
Mark Reardon, founder and president of the Centrepointe Leadership, San Diego, CA, served as the facilitator of the conference. Reardon is the author of Strategies for Great Teaching, Hot Tips for Teachers, Quantum Teaching, and more. Reardon has over 35 years experience as an elementary and middle school teacher, middle and high school principal, trainer, consultant, speaker and author.
The Thunder Ridge Cheerleaders will have their annual fireworks stand up at the Corner Corral parking lot, selling fireworks through Thursday, July 5th. Come say “Hi!” to the girls and purchase your fireworks local. Wishing everyone a happy and safe holiday week.

This Friday (July 6) the special at the American Legion will be Club Sliders. They will have ham, turkey, roast beef and cheese on a slider bun. We'll have a patriotic salad, and baked beans. The Kensington Community Library Summer Reading Program presents Thad Beach & The Musical Chair! We plan to “rock” with presenter Thad Beach to finish out our summer reading programs with a bang! This event is for all ages preschool thru 5th grades on Tuesday, July 10th at 10:00 a.m.
It's time to "Rock Your Imagination" as musician and songwriter, Thad Beach transforms a common wooden chair into a musical accompaniment to his original creations and traditional songs. His concerts provide lots of opportunities to participate and he demonstrates a variety of musical instruments. Thad draws from a diverse background in musical styles ranging from traditional, folk, old-time, and country blues to roaring 20’s. His programs feature a variety of string and percussion instruments. Lots of fun for all ages! We hope all the children attending our summer reading programs will join us for this grand finale on Tuesday, July 10th at 10:00 a.m.
