District Playoffs for the Longhorns
The Thunder Ridge Longhorns, coached by Joel Struckhoff, Blane Hrabe, and Dillon Coomes, are in the playoffs for the first time since 2012, when they achieved State Runner-Up status. Eagle radio out of Hays, 101.9 the Bull, will be radio broadcasting this Thunder Ridge vs. Dighton playoff game Thursday night, October 25th. Kickoff starts at 6:00pm in Dighton. Tune in to listen if you can’t make the trip and cheer on the Longhorns from home! Good Luck boys!

Lady Longhorns named Sub-state Runners-Up
Class 1A Regional Volleyball took place last Tuesday, October 16th, at Northern Valley-Almena. The Lady Longhorns beat Logan, winning in 2 sets; 25-15, 25-17. Almena beat Downs-Lakeside to move on to the next round, so it was Thunder Ridge versus Northern Valley. The Lady Longhorns won in 2 sets; 25-15, 25-21, claiming the Regional Championship title. After earning the Regional Championship at Almena, on Tuesday, October 16th, the Lady Longhorns advanced to Sub-state play. They traveled to Ransom on Saturday, October 20th, for the Sub-state Volleyball Tournament. The ladies triumphed over Dighton, winning in 2 sets; 25-21, 25-20. In the final round, they faced off against Otis-Bison. Sadly, they fell short, losing in 2 sets; 25-16, 27-25. The Lady Longhorns were named Sub-state Runners-up and ended the season with a record of 34-4. Congrats to the Lady Longhorns on a terrific season.

TRMS Football
The Thunder Ridge Middle School ended their football season 6-0 on Thursday October 11th with a victory over Osborne. The boys started off slow, with four turnovers in the first half and fell behind by 16 points early in the second half. The rest of the game saw Thunder Ridge slowly chip away at the lead. The Longhorns scored with one minute left and completed the extra point to go up 36-34. They then held on defense for the win. The boys had a great season and it was fun to end the year undefeated with an exciting game. It was truly a team effort to complete the undefeated season.

American Legion Menu
Friday Night Special, October 26, serving from 6:00-8:30pm.
This week at the American Legion we will have a bewitching, Halloween meal. The special will be Meatball “Eyes” with elbows and cheese brains (homemade mac & cheese), candy corn jello, and spooky spider deviled eggs. The soup special will a bowl of bones (potato soup) and a BLT wrap. Our dessert is Chocolate spider trifle. For the kids who come to eat, we will have a special plate just for them. It will have Crescent Mummy Pizzas and candy corn jello! Please call us to fix your order to be picked up at 785.476.3204. We'd be more than happy to put some tables together if you have a big party that would like to join us.
The American Legion in Kensington will be serving a soup and sandwich special every Monday and Wednesday evening throughout the winter, Come enjoy a bowl of homemade soup, along with a sandwich and dessert. See you all there between 6:00 and 8:00pm. We will also have hamburgers and fries. Don’t forget our Veterans Day celebration on Saturday, November 10th. Join us for a fun-filled day and good food.
Fairytale Murder Mystery Dinner
We sure hope you RSVP’d for this event! The St. John Lutheran Church Missions Committee is sponsoring a special “Fairytale Murder Mystery Dinner” at the American Legion in Kensington this Sunday, October 28th. Social hour starts at 5:00pm with Murder Mystery Performance at 5:30pm; accepting a Free Will offering with all proceeds going to the Veterans Community Project.
Claudell Reunion
Save the date for the Annual Gathering of the St. Francis Church in Claudell. It will be Sunday, November 4 with a 4:00pm Mass at the church followed by a potluck meal at the Gaylord Community Center. Plan to attend and tell your friends and families.
Kensington Library News
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to the Kensington Library! Preview and browse the book fair on Saturday November 3rd. We will open for sales starting Monday, November 5th through Saturday the 10th. We will be open from 9am-2pm during the Veterans Day Celebration on Sat. 10th. This is a great opportunity to purchase gifts for your children, grandchildren, and teachers for their classrooms.
This Veterans Day marks the 100th anniversary of the WWI armistice agreement.
To honor the 100th anniversary, the family of Byron and Leanne Grauerholz of Salina, KS have brought a special item to display at the library. Their son Benjamin, grandson of Darold and Joyce Grauerholz of Kensington, is a history buff who enjoys learning about the different battles and wars fought. Ben has his very own life-like replica of war trenches that he plays with regularly. The Grauerholz family wanted to share this unique trench replica with us for children of the community to play with and enjoy as well. So please stop by the library anytime now through November 10th to see this amazing trench and remember the war that was fought for us.
