KAY Conference at TR

The Thunder Ridge High School Kansas Association for Youth (KAY) club hosted the KAY Unit Conference on Wednesday, February 1, 2023. Approximately 200 students attended the morning event from Thunder Ridge and the following area schools: Norton Senior High, Norton Junior High, Northern Valley, Logan, Stockton, Phillipsburg, Pike Valley, Sylvan-Lucas and Republic County. The theme was “Service with Purpose.” The morning opened with rolls, muffins and donuts, then students participated in two opening activities, Find Someone Who and Rock, Paper, Scissors, to get acquainted. KAY State Director, Annie Diederich, presided over the opening general session. Students then participated in a Find My Purpose Activity led by students from TRHS. For the Laugh, Love, Lift sessions, students listened to presentations by Trooper Tod Hileman, Kansas Highway Patrol Public Information Trooper about current trends and Robin Billings, about Matmakers. The next session was Service with Purpose where delegates were divided in two groups: one group learned how to tie plarn (plastic yarn) for Matmakers and the other group made valentines to take with them. It was a very busy and successful morning! TRHS KAY members cleaned up afterwards and enjoyed pizza for lunch.
