Kensington Commercial Club 2020 Sponsorship Letters are in the mail! We appreciate your support - past, present and future!!! If you do not receive one but would like to donate - please see the letter below - all donations are welcome!!    Kensington Commercial/Community Club is working hard to keep our community thriving, provide activities and give back. DATE: June 15. 2020 TO:  Friends of the Biggest Little Town in Kansas FROM: The Kensington Commercial Club  Thanks to your generous donations in 2019, the Kensington Commercial Club is back and running at full force.  Old Fashioned Saturday in August, Veterans Day in November and Christmas activities in December were successful and well attended by the community.  Increased funds enabled the Club to sponsor several athletic broadcasts during the school year.  Covid-19 brought 2020 spring activities to a halt.  We are working now to expand the activities for Old Fashioned Saturday, August 15, 2020 and continue into the fall.  A major activity for the holiday season will be to expand the Christmas decorations downtown.  This project got a jump start with a recent grant from the Smith County Community Foundation.   We are again asking for donations based on the following table. All businesses that make a donation will have their name included on a sponsorship banner to be hung in the American Legion building. Annual Gold Sponsorship: $500  Annual Silver Sponsorship: $250 Annual Bronze Sponsorship: $100 Annual Sponsorship: $25 Send your donations to: Joan Nech, 16042 B Rd, Kensington KS  66951 or you can leave your donation at the Farmers National Bank in Kensington Thank you for helping the Commercial Club continue to promote the Biggest Little Town in Kansas! Ktown Kates Met The June 13, 2020 meeting of the Ktown Kates met at Deb Levin’s house. After the delicious morning brunch prepared mainly by Deb, the meeting was held. President Donna Westbrook opened the business meeting with roll call being answered by 16 members. The March minutes were read and declared approved. The April meeting, which was supposed to be the Spring Tea, had been canceled due to the stay at home order by the governor due to the COVID-19 virus and the May meeting has been traditionally canceled due to the many May activities. The treasurer's report was presented. The report was declared approved.  Georgetta Kinyon gave a detailed report on the food pantry. Following is the number of the previous month’s participants by the total of family units and single units accessing the food pantry: January- 19, February- 13, March- 26, April- 25, May- 16. Georgetta then presented for the year the coupon amounts paid, cost of food bought, estimated future donations, and the existing balance in the account. After discussion by the members, Barbara Grauerholz moved to designate the coupon amounts to be in the amount previously given before July 2019. Donna Johnson seconded. Motion passed. A generous donation of $600 had been received to be given specifically for coupons. Additional coupons were given in April and May to comply with the donation. The 3rd SATURDAY OF EACH MONTH will continue to be reserved for the food pantry at the Senior Citizens Building. Any reservations for other activities can be after 3:00pm when the food pantry is over or before 12:30pm when preparations are made to open the food pantry.  Old Business: in view of the fact that the Spring Tea that was to be held in April 2020 was canceled, the consensus of the members was that Ktown Kates will host it in April 2021. New Business: Old Fashioned Saturday Night is to be held in Kensington on August 15, 2020. Discussion was held. Ktown Kates will sell pies and cookies at their booth. Please have food at the stand around 5:45pm. The next food pantry will be the 3rd SATURDAY, June 20, from 1:00 to 3:00pm. Georgetta, Donna W., Deb B., and Loretta will work. Meeting Adjourned  Retirement Party A retirement party will be held in honor of Mr. Jeff Yoxall at the Thunder Ridge Elementary School, 128 S Kansas St, Kensington KS, on Thursday June 25th from 9:00 to noon.
