New Produce Cooler for Kensington Community Store
Kensington Community Store is a non-profit store that provides affordable groceries for local residents without the need to drive to neighboring towns. We depend on our residents to keep the store in business.
A new 7 door produce cooler was purchased with the help of the Trusts and Foundations listed below. This should save hundreds of dollars per month in energy savings. Special “Thank You” to the following for providing funds for our new cooler.
CoBank (Ron Rahjes-CoBank board member) $15,000; Rathert Foundation $2,287; Thomas Charitable Trust $1,000; Cleon Dettmer Charitable Trust $500; HOME Charitable Foundation $500; Carrol & Darlene Booz Charitable Trust $370; Mark Migalski Memorial; Individuals donating to the fundraiser dinners. KCS held a Soup Lunch Fundraiser on September 22, 2019 and a total of $4,091.13 was donated for the cooler installation and also to help pay outstanding bills. Thank you everyone who brought soup, worked, participated and made a donation.
60+ Meeting Held
The county-wide ‘60 Plus’ meeting was held on Thursday, October 3, at the Kensington Community Center with approximately 40 members attending. The theme was Christmas in October, carried out with decorations and Christmas tree all aglow. Snowflakes hanging from the ceiling and goblets decorated for centerpieces completed the decor.
Donna Westbrook registered the guests. Carmen Rice gave the welcome, followed by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. The dinner blessing was given.
The meal of ham, party potatoes, and rolls, furnished by the host group, was accompanied by salads and desserts provided by the remaining members from Lebanon, Smith Center, and Kensington.
Activity director, Cynthia Wahl introduced Dave Hutson and Galen Larson who entertained the group. A game was played and door prizes were awarded. Next year the meeting will be held in Lebanon on October 1, 2020.
Halloween Fun at the Library!
The Kensington Community/School Library is hosting a Pumpkin Decorating Contest again this year. We invite the children to decorate fake pumpkins to resemble their favorite book characters. We do have foam pumpkins available for $3.00 each while supplies last. Bring your finished product and book to the library by Monday, October 21st to have on display for voting. Voting will take place through Monday the 28th.
New this year, we are inviting local organizations, businesses and churches to join us in holding a Trunk-Or-Treat event on Monday evening, October 28th. Park in the library parking lot or along the street and open your trunks from 6:30-7:30pm. Thunder Ridge Elementary also plans to parade downtown on Thursday afternoon, October 31st with around 45 kids dressed up in their costumes. If your business already plans to provide treats this day, please note that Trunk-Or-Treat is optional but we’d love to have you. Do one or both! Let’s make this Halloween a great one for the kids.
